Teeth Whitening

Your teeth are bleached in order to whiten them during teeth whitening. Your teeth won't become dazzling white, but the tint can be lightened by many shades.

Who can do teeth whitening?

Dentistry includes the practise of teeth whitening, which should only be done by a dentist or another licenced dental practitioner, such as a dental hygienist or dental therapist, under a dentist's direction.

Some beauty shops provide teeth whitening services, but doing so without a dentist present is against the law and might endanger your oral health.

What happens during teeth whitening?

If you have your teeth whitened you'll first need to make 2 to 3 visits to the dental surgery.

The dentist will manufacture a mouthguard using an imprint of your teeth and instruct you on how to wear it with a whitening treatment. The gel is then routinely applied for a certain amount of time over a few weeks while wearing your mouthguard at home. The treatment duration can be shortened by using whitening gels that can be used for up to 8 hours at a time.

Another sort of teeth-whitening method that a dentist might offer is laser whitening, sometimes referred to as power whitening. Your teeth are painted with a bleaching substance, which is then activated by a light or laser. It takes an hour or so to use laser whitening.
